Blogging is not quite like riding on a bicycle, after you don't put down anything online for a long time, it doesn't seem as easy as it once did. Here goes:
Asia America..this is all very numbing to all of us, for the first time, it is not our group that is feeling hurt, it is us who have had one of our own hurt others. Reading through some random blogs on Xanga has been disappointing, for so many of us joke publicly that we hope its not our own culture. I sicken myself, because of the sigh that automatically went through my mind this morning, when I read that he was Korean. Just 12 hours before, when the Chicago Sun Times began to accuse an international student from China, I worried, I thought of when the spy plane went down, and I thought of when SARS broke out, the looks people gave. This morning has a rough awakening, that Asia America needs to brace itself, as a group, and reach out a hand to one another. This an opportunity to unite, to provide comfort to those who are now afraid, those who worry about the repercussions of this event. We all know that in this land, we are but one color to the rest of the ethnic groups, yet we still divide ourselves so strongly over nations, trying to walk away from this mess because it is "not my country people." The young man who started this massacre was a 23 year old male, the year of the rat, came to the states in 1992, when he was a young child, still on a green card. Probably a familiar scenario for many of us.
Asia America, do not divide now, do not let your own speak poorly of another, do not join the blaming, we are in the same boat, we can make a difference for our children, and for those around us. Will you stand up when the unjust comments are raised? When people begin to bicker, and accuse, when you hear things like "good thing it wasn't a such and such........" "I always knew those people were so aggressive" "etc" I need to do some verbal speaking against this now at work....so i end here....
Christians, pray continually, know that these are times that racial reconciliation and comforting our brothers and sisters will mean so much. Share honestly, and love earnestly. The body hurts and therefore we hurt.
This body is a crazy mix of branches.
"If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild
olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the
nourishing sap from the olive root, do not boast over those branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in." Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either."
